2G Technology in India

2G technology, commonly known as second generation telephone technology is a prevalent system of GSM based mobile communication. It was launched in year 1991 in the Finland and later incepted to India as a digital revolution with new and highly advanced features. With 2G, mobile communication found an entirely new way of expression to the real world. Second generation technology is categorized in two types namely TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access). The basic difference comes in the manner both the technologies offer the time slots. In TDMA, signals are divided into the time slots and CDMA, each user is allotted a unique code that allows codes to communicate over the multiplex physical channel.

GSM technology comes under the umbrella of TDMA with iDEN and iS-136. Being the integral part of 2G, GSM is commonly known as Global system for mobile communication standard and acts as the base point of all available mobile technologies. This widely acclaimed technology was originated from the Europe and now the most recognized part of mobile telephony across 200+ countries across the global locations. GSM was the first entity that introduced roaming facility where mobile subscribers could have talked in international locations using their mobile phones. Unlike its prior counterpart 1G, 2G has offered more intensity in the communication modes with the help of great digital signals ever.

Under the 2G umbrella, global telephony carriers have adapted both GSM and CDMA as primary technologies to ensure more convenient data and voice transfer from cellular phones to cell sites.
